2023 Stuart and Lucy’s Evening Run
Wednesday 7th June report by Mike Cowen
June and an evening run in the cars around the country roads of North
Yorks. Sounds idyllic and it was .. but come on weather it’s JUNE.
Despite the temp resembling a winter’s evening it was tops down as we
arrived in Applegarth car park in Northallerton but the fleeces and
heaters were definitely on.
25 cars turned out including Paul’s Caterham making its debut at the car
club. I have to say they weren’t being unsociable by not getting out to
talk to us. It’s just that it takes some time and effort to get out and
then to get back in so it was easier to stay put and wait for the off.
As ever with a Stuart run the anticipation was high. Could we finally
get a road from Stuart wider than our cars! He does like the narrow
roads and why not.
We headed out towards Danby Wisk and then onwards through many perfect
little villages along yes you’ve guessed it narrow roads but you know
what it was perfect. Potholes are something we can’t avoid right now but
on the whole (sorry) these roads were pretty good.
He even found a couple of water splashes and despite three weeks without
any rain they both had water in and the second had enough to hide the
beautiful old cobbles!!!!
As we headed back in, we passed through Masham and Bedale on our way to
the finish of the 48 mile run at Rubén’s in Leaming Bar.
With the club having grown it’s difficult to cater for everyone as
people have different schedules, especially on evening runs. For those
fully retired I guess it’s not a problem but we have quite a few who are
still at work and so it’s not as easy to
a, get to for 6pm
b, waiting to eat till 9pm can be diet inducing to say the least.
Stuart and Lucy had the great idea and establishment to make it free and
easy. If you want to eat you can if you don’t just have a drink and
chat.
Thank guys for a lovely evening.
