2022 Mike and Jackie’s run in memory of Jackie’s Mum
On Sunday the 19th June the club were invited to Mike and Jackie’s home
for breakfast refreshment’s at 9am for a small charge of £1, the
proceeds to go to a Cancer charity. Neighbours were also invited to the
breakfast and to look at our cars. When Tony and I arrived, breakfast
was well on its way and many happy neighbours admiring the cars in the
lovely sunshine. There were ten cars to admire including Mike’s.
Mike waved us off at intervals at around 10.30am, navigators clutching
their routes. The lay out was somewhat different to our normal runs as
there were no mileage updates between instructions, but we were told
that the route was 90miles. Tony and I managed very well until the last
20 miles when we became lost and decided to return to Mike’s. The route
which was very pretty took us through Teesdale which lies between Durham
County and the North Yorkshire Moors.
We returned to Mike and Jackie’s a little earlier than the rest, we were
given a cup of tea and enjoyed a sit in their very pretty garden until
the rest arrived back, most appeared to approve of the new layout. Mike
had organised a BBQ for us, bringing our own meats and Jackie providing
the salads. Mike did a wonderful job cooking all the meats to order and
then we helped ourselves to salads. The weather continued to be lovely
and as usual there was much chatter and laughter. The main course was
followed by 2 delicious homemade cheesecakes brought by David and Norma
Williams, thank you.
Following the BBQ Jackie counted the donations and there was a generous
amount of £265 which Mike and Jackie decided to put towards The Dales
Trail Charity – Breast Cancer Now-The Research and Care Charity.
Thank you to Mike and Jackie for organising this happy event in memory
of her Mum. Sheila.
