2019 Richard and Jean Culmer’s Evening Run 10th July
Report by Sheila Mason, Photographs by Jim Turnbull and Richard Culmer
Sixteen cars arrived at the Marage carpark at 18.00 to be greeted by
Jean and Richard, Richard gave out his excellent instructions including
a special one for Jim Turnbull in kilometres and Jean ready to hand out
raffle tickets with the intention of navigators swapping drivers, this
was an idea from the AGM, but sadly most navigators were not keen, so in
the end nobody swapped! There were eleven MG’s in the group plus a
Morris Minor, Jaguar, Morgan and two Mazda’s, they all gleamed in the
sunshine with not a speck of dust on them.
We left at approximately 18.30 with Tony first man out of the car park,
Richard had told us to take it easy and enjoy the views and we should
arrive at our destination at around 20.00 but he would expect Tony and
my self’s ETA to be 19.40, Tony did not disappoint and arrived at 19.45
as we had taken one wrong turn. Please note, new members, these runs are
not a race!
The 43 mile/69 km. route was very scenic, travelling through many
villages including Cowesby, Boltby, Byland and Coxwold, at one point we
were only a 100 metres from the Howardian Hills. We were also able to
enjoy the panoramic view of the Vale of York at the top of the hill near
Bagby.
The Greyhound, Bagby, was our destination with everyone arriving on
time, as usual there was much animated chatter round the bar and in the
restaurant. We all agreed that it had been an excellent route and choice
of venue. Thank you to Richard and Jean for putting so much effort into
the evening, we all appreciate the hard work that goes into arranging
these events.
