YDCCC - Dales Trail - Sunday 14th June 2026

Bolton Castle was once again the location for The Dales Trail, our annual charity fundraising event. This year members voted to support Hambleton Community Action Group (HCAG), who provide vital services to the local community in Northallerton, Bedale and the surrounding areas. These services include lifts to hospital appointments, shopping trips, sitting in to give family respite, wheels to work, and moped loan in outlying areas to enable people to get to work.

The event was blessed with a fine sunny day. Over 70 cars took part, not just Club members but people from all over the country, many of whom take the opportunity to stay locally for a night or two to enjoy the area. The winners of the trophy for the furthest distance travelled to the event had come all the way from Brixham! Pre-run refreshments were provided by Millie Moo's Roasts, normally to be found in the Winston Lay-By near Darlington. Their bacon/sausage baps were a definite hit!

There was a staggered start from 1030, with cars setting off on a 90 mile circular route taking in Kettlewell, Grassington, Malham, Buckden and Hawes. The scenery was superb and some of the roads could definitely be deemed "interesting", ie narrow and twisting with passing places, but that all added to the enjoyment.

The presentations were made at 1600 when most of the cars had returned. In addition to the furthest travelled trophy there is one for the car that the charity would most like to take home. Becca Briggs from HVAG was spoilt for choice but settled on a lovely white MGA. The breakdown trophy was presented to Club member Jim Turnbull (an HCAG volunteer) who didn't actually break down but had a scary experience with a tractor (tractor at fault) that will necessitate remedial works to Jim's car. Fortunately Jim and his wife were fine.

With income from the event plus previous fundraising from wine raffles, we were able to present Becca with a cheque for £2,710 to help further HVAG's work – a great result.

Our thanks go to Lord Bolton and his staff; Millie Moo's Roasts; our sponsors The Classic Car Workshop, Foxstitch Limited, Tennants Auctioneers, Bedale Motor Factors Ltd and The Vintage Petrol Pump Garage; Bench Hut Design & Print Ltd for preparing the event booklets; Mike Cowan the event organiser and all who helped on the day.

Provisional Date for Dales Trail 2027 – Sunday 27th June. To be confirmed ASAP.
