2018 Treasure Hunt and BBQ
1st July Report by Sheila Mason
It was a wonderful feeling to wake up Sunday morning and know the
weather was going to be brilliant for the Treasure Hunt and BBQ. Eight
cars arrived at Middleton Tyas Primary School car park at 11am. We were
greeted by Richard and Martin organizing parking positions and Jean and
Sue serving homemade tea bread [Mary Berry's Recipe] and coffee. There
was much chatter while Richard gave out the route and the dreaded
Treasure Hunt Questions. Tony and I were the first to leave with great
expectations of coming first in the Treasure Hunt! Apparently three cars
left the car park and turned in the wrong direction, probably the
navigators reading the clues rather than the directions -- it's very
hard being a navigator plus working out clues, unless you have a very
patient driver.

We headed to Richmond, onto Marske, across The Feldon Ranges, through
glorious country side and onto Barningham. We were now in The Prince of
Bishops County and onto signs for Cotherstone and Battle Hill Ranges. It
was nearly time to take a comfort break in Middleton, and then through
Staindrop village, we then passed Stanwick Camp with only 5 miles left
to drive and 1 more clue before arriving at Martin and Sue's house in
Middleton Tyas. The whole trip was 67 miles long with 22 challenging
questions.

On arrival the garden was laid out, garden party style with lace and
hand embroidered tablecloths, Sue’s Grandma with Sue's help embroidered
the tablecloths, hope all the drivers noticed the delicate stitching?
The food was delicious and the drinks flowed.

Now for the dreaded results, Richard marked all the papers very
carefully and we waited with fingers crossed to see who had won. I am
pleased Tony and I improved our usual bottom position by one place.

Richard with his red pen, serious stuff!
Here are the results:-
Wooden Spoon to Bill & Isabel 11.5
Tony & Sheila 14.5
Dennis & Lucy 16
Dave & Kate 16.5
Ian & Julie 16.5
Jim & Carol 17
Stuart & Lucy 18
The winners Martin and Jackie 18.5 --WELL DONE--of course it's the
taking part that counts!
Thank you to Richard, Jean, Martin and Sue from every one that was there
for organizing an excellent and enjoyable event.
