2017 Gordon Bulmer Memorial Run - 8th July 2017
Report by Sheila Mason Photographs Stuart Bulmer (additional photographs
Jim Clark).
21 cars met at the Mirage car park Thirsk at 10am, on a wonderful sunny
day. We were greeted by Stuart and Lucy and the 2 photographers, Andy
Ellis and John Waide, who had offered to take the official photos at
strategic points on the run. There were 13 MG's, 2 Fords, 2 Porsche, 1
Alfa Romeo, 1 BMWZ3, 1 Mazda and 1 Toyota. The cars also came in 8
different colours, what a pretty sight in the sunshine! I would also
like to mention the navigators, they were an elegant group ranging in
age from 11 to 70+, thank you navigators for doing such a terrific job.

The run was 94.3 miles long, starting at 10.30 with an arrangement for a
45 minute coffee break at either Pickering or Thornton-le-Dale. The
first village we went through was Carlton Husthwaite, heading then for
Hovingham. At the 27 mile mark there was a photo shoot at a ford, sadly
there was no water! On through Hutton-le-Hole where there were plenty of
sheep on the road.

Once we had all had a break at either Pickering or Thornton-le-Dale we
headed in the direction of Castle Howard were there was another photo
shoot near the entrance of Castle Howard just after the Monument and
through to the second archway. Next village we passed through, at the
75mile mark, was called BULMER Village, how appropriate. Only 20 miles
to go but with all the beautiful scenery, gorgeous villages and 5 narrow
bridges to navigate over the time had passed very quickly. Last village
to pass through was Flawith then onto Tholthorpe passing the village
pond to our eatery, The New Inn. We all arrived in good time, with no
mishaps except for Stuart who had a minor breakdown.
