2018 Gordon Bulmer Memorial Run

8th July Report by Dave Simpson

Sunday dawned with yet another warm and sunny day, ideal for a classic car run. The club met at Thirsk and what a turn out we had, twenty plus cars apart from our usual club MG’s Jim brought his immaculate Spitfire, although the bonnet was seen to be open prior to setting off, but nothing serious and Steve’s MK1 Escort along with Mike’s E type the gathering was boosted by some friends of Stuart and Lucy with an Aston Martin and a Porsche Cayenne, we also had a guest Rolls Royce in beautiful condition owned by Bill Potter from Thirsk. I believe there is some pressure on him to join us on a more permanent basis, we are going up in the world. We also had some guests from Tees Valley join us which was great to see.

Eventually after much chat and greetings and catching up from the group that went to France the cars set off. The route was a marathon 109 miles with excellent directions which did not stop the usual missed turnings which resulted in some cars going in different directions not very far into the route.

We headed out to the west over the A1 for Kirklington and West Tanfield across country to Pately Bridge. The views over the dale above Pately Bridge were not to be missed on this fine day. We headed towards Harrogate, passing through too many villages to mention. On through Shaw Mills and Sawley, a grand tour eventually turning back towards the Bedale area and just about every country road we could find through Brompton and to the car park at the Fox and Hounds for a welcome drink and late lunch.

A really successful day due to the hard work of our organisers for the day and a record club turn out. The club is going extremely well this year thanks to the work put in by the members organising the trips and July has been a busy month so far, well done to all, long may it continue.
