2017 North Yorkshire Scenic Tour - 7th June 2017
(Or Bills cannon ball run).

Report by Dave Simpson

Seventeen cars (yes seventeen), gathered on the Fox & Hounds car park for this run out orchestrated by Bill & Mavis. Although a fine evening it was quite cold and not a night to stand about chatting.

Instructions handed out complete with little maps the crews set out heading across Landmoth thro Borrowby, Knayton and via a short burst along the A19 to the Thirsk area. Up into the hills via high Kilburn along tracks more suited to tractors than sports cars. We climbed up White Horse hill, with the famous white horse looking a bit greyish at the moment and past the gliding club at the top.

Heading over the high ground above Sutton and then descending a bit through Scawton the roads getting narrower a few locals with their Range Rovers coming the other way having to negotiate seventeen classic cars out on a mission.

However the mad rush was quickly halted by a large flock, someone claimed about a hundred, woolly backed sheep on the road, might have been more but they went to sleep counting them! How ever we managed to turn this previously rural very narrow road into a copy of the M25 for some minutes before aforesaid animals were herded to safety by the modern shepherd on his quad bike.

Upwards and onwards towards Cold Kirby and then to be faced by the raging mill stream of Caydale Mill which was well swollen by the previous nights storm, this challenge successfully accomplished by all cars we continued by Boltby, Cowesby and back to the pub for a welcome feast of bangers and mash and flagons of ale, well at least a drink, to end the evening.

This was an excellent run out, well done to Bill & Mavis for impeccable directions and organisation, as Bill said he can now rest for the remainder of the season job done.
