YDCCC - Dales Trail 2014

Sunday 21st dawned bright and clears with a decent forecast for our Dales Trail. The cars started arriving shortly after nine and by ten o clock we had thirty seven entrants enjoying a cuppa and biscuit and supporting the extremely well stocked tombola stall manned by Dot and Kayleigh.

There was a lot of debate about whether to have the roof up or down, most people made the brave choice and went topless !

The route took the cars through Richmond over Marske bridge and over the hill in to Swaledale. Through Reeth and then over the stone bridge known as Whiteaside and a steep climb on to the moor top, this is a testing little road but as far as is known all cars made it. This is followed by a steep drop down the other side into Wenslydale through Askrig and along to Hawes. I think most teams stopped for a visit to the Creamery and lunch or to stock up on cheese after which the route directed the cars on to Semerwater and eventually back on to the main road along the dale to Wensley. A right turn here and a visit to the horse racing town of Middleham before being directed to Bedale via quiet roads and back to the golf club.

We had a variety of cars entered this year some are featured here:

After more tea and general chatting about the day’s events the secretary (Sheila Mason) and chairman (Dave Simpson) made presentations to the furthest travelled entrant, Shirley Baxter and her daughter who had come from Lincolnshire along with their dog!

“Furthest Travelled” prize being awarded

The car our judge for the day from Herriot Hospice would most like to take home was won by Dennis Wheatly with his very nice SS Jaguar replica, who I am informed also filled in a club membership form, we hope to see him on the next run.

The most desirable car on the run.

Our secretary Sheila presented a cheque for £500 to Mrs Robinson from Herriot Hospice. A very successful day helped by fine weather, a good field of entrants and grateful help from Kate & Sheila who registered the entrants as they arrived, Bill & Jim who performed car park duties complete with hi-viz jackets and Dot & Kayleigh who raised £140 on the tombola stall also to the Sponsors and members who donated so many great prizes.

Finally thanks to our sponsors
